Shafqat Mahmood Condemns attack on Independent Media

Islamabad 7th May: PTI Central Information Secretary has said that highly professional investigative reporter of a private TV Channel has exposed the true face of Sharif Brothers in front of the people of Pakistan. He said that reports of Punjab government’s intention of suing Mubashir Luqman and investigative reporter Huzefa Rehman Qureshi after they exposed the laptop scam is clear evidence of panic in the ranks of Punjab government.

He said that such brave reporting of exposing such influential people by the youngest investigative journalist of Pakistan is commendable. In a strongly worded statement Shafqat Mahmood has condemned reports of vengeful acts against the family of investigative reporter Huzefa Rehman Qureshi terming such acts as blatant attack on independent journalism to cover up the corruption of Punjab Government.

He reiterated PTI’s resolve to fight the menace of corruption and stated that the Punjab administration cannot hide its misconduct by using these pressure tactics against the free media. He lauded the role of free media in general and Huzefa and Mubashir Luqman in particular for exposing the corruption of the political elite in face of immense pressures and repeated threats from high ups of the Punjab administration. He said that PTI will stand by the vibrant media of Pakistan adding that institutions fighting corruption in the country are under constant attack from forces of political status quo.
