Only unbelievers don’t support Imran Khan
By: Ali Khan
Ha-Ha; that got your attention didn’t it? Well, before you start hating me for the title of this article let us first understand which unbelievers I am talking about. Do not just read the title and start commenting on this beautiful piece of literature. First read it, understand its true spirit and take sarcasm where intended. I have heard some of you are masters of this language.
Iqbal was a dreamer. He dreamed of a nation state. Jinnah was a fantasist too. He believed enough in his dream to turn it into a reality. Rumi had once said in masnavi, “dream so that you can achieve it; believe in your dream so you are sleepless”.
There is no doubt in my mind that if you do not believe in what you want to achieve, you will not be able to turn the dream into a reality. When people believed that one day they will fly; some laughed at them. When people believed they will carve a nation-state on the map of the world; some called them insane.
Today when some people are dreaming of a new Pakistan they are being ridiculed and looked at with utmost skepticism. My query to them is, do you think dreaming in Pakistan is impossible? Either you can continue to be an unbeliever and keep saying that change will not come; or become a part of it and give it a shot. Remember, only those will fail who will at least try.
When Montesquieu, a French philosopher was busy writing spirit of laws in 1752 some said he is wasting time. Few years later American founders were debating his suggestion and forming a constitution based on Montesquieu’s ideas.
Montesquieu suggested that a monarchy is best for United States. Now before you start telling me there is a president in United States and not a monarch you would have to read the entire 1400 page book or at least learn what in Greek ‘mon’ and ‘arch’ means **(Read note at the bottom).
I am cautioning the unbelievers that just like you don’t understand Montesquieu’s monarchy similarly you will not understand what this Tehrik is capable of. Tehrikis are going to show you how it is done in Pakistan. They will do it; at least they will give it a try.
They might fail. So what? When their kids and grandkids will ask them, “Why didn’t you fix problems of Pakistan?” at least they will have an answer to give. What will you say that it was not possible? Na, you will have a better answer and that is, I was busy criticizing those who were trying.
By the way I don’t really understand why we are so allergic to dreaming. We are so afraid of trying and giving our best. Why for heaven’s sake? We have the talent. We have the heart. We have the skills. Then what exactly are we afraid of. Why can’t we be supportive of someone who is at least trying? If you cannot be of help then stop being a pain.
True, politicians have not really given us what we deserved in past. I can understand that part. But as a nation we want change. Strangely for some reason we don’t like change. Do we really want a change in Pakistan? We have seen what has happened in the past. Do we have to repeat the same mistakes again?
For sake of argument even if I agree with you that Imran Khan will give us nothing and won’t be able to change anything in Pakistan and will turn out like others. Still, this will be a new mistake. At least like a fool we won’t be repeating the same mistake. Or now do you want to be a fool as well in addition to an unbeliever?
I am not ready to get into the petty debate of what Imran Khan or PTI or a Tehriki is capable of or not. I am not willing to do PML (N) or PPP bashing. It is plain and simple; I am just not willing to be a fool anymore. Is that so difficult for you to understand? This time, if I make a mistake, I just want to make a new one. What’s wrong with that?
After Oct 30th, Imran Khan is no more PTI. It is the Tehriki who constitutes PTI now. It is because of a Tehriki, a young energetic, knowledgeable, educated worker of the party that Imran Khan is being taken as a political clout. PTI is same as the one before Oct 30th. The only thing that has changed is bright young Pakistanis willing to come out in public for a dreamer. The exact same youth of Pakistan that we all were so proud of few weeks ago, but now suddenly, you, the unbelievers, have started multiplying them with zero. In other words you are telling me and the history that you do not believe in the youth of Pakistan anymore?
Well honestly, to me, you are not entirely at fault. The Tehrikis are at fault too. They are under estimating themselves. They, as Tehrikis, do not fully understand their own abilities and powers. They do not realize that they have already started writing a new chapter of history. They have started a new political culture and social value structure that will define future. They do not fully recognize what they are about to do and have done. They have, in reality, given power to Imran Khan.
So, guess what, by the end of this article I am asking you ‘unbeliever’ to criticize Tehrikis and their Tehrik. Tell them they cannot do it. Challenge them. Call their leader with names. Call him a dreamer and idealist. Call PTI a joke and fan club. Shake these Tehrikis to the core. I assure you, you won’t be doing any disservice to them. This will wake them up. This will make them think and put them to work.
After all what they are trying to do is not something easy. They are trying to make better future for their children and yours too. And by no means should this be easy for them to achieve.
Tehrikis; now it is up to you to decide; is your will and belief stronger than your opponents? Are your dreams of Pakistan like those of Iqbal and Jinnah? Are you really a Tehriki? Are you, in reality, a believer?
**(Note: monarchy in Greek means one man rule, the system of check and balance was introduced to monarchy by Montesquieu which he derived from Islamic system of Khilafah. You will find the reference in letter 64 and 67 of the US founders and Book 3 Chapter 7 of Spirit of laws.)
